The details of a patient's record, including any cancer group and study-specific information that has been gathered for the cancer group and/or study as specified in your session purpose — see Defining the Session Purpose — is accessible for viewing and editing through the patient's detail window.

To view/edit a patient's record:

Perform a search for the patient in question. See Searching for a Patient for instructions on how to do this. Once you have performed the search, the patient should be listed in the results grid on the Patient List window (unless you used the patient's MRN to look up the patient — see the note below).

If you use the patient's MRN to look up the patient, the patient's detail window will open directly — see Looking Up a Patient with an MRN — in which case you can skip step 2 below and go directly to step 3.

Double-click on the patient's row in the grid on the Patient List window. The patient's detail window will open.

Make any necessary changes to the patient record. See The Patient Detail Window for a description of the window and information presented. See also the list of topics at the end of these instructions for links to instructions for performing specific editing tasks on the patient detail window.

If you make any changes to the patient record, click the Save & Close button in the lower right corner of the window to ensure that your changes are saved and close the window.

If your changes are significant or if the patient record is new, you may need to mark the patient record for review — see Marking a Patient Record Ready for Review.

At any point while editing, you can click the Save button to the left of the Save & Close button to save your work without closing the window.

If there is any unsaved data on the window, the letters on the Save button will appear in red. Changes made to any grids on the patient detail window will be automatically saved and will not require you to click on the Save button.

To close the window without saving any unsaved changes, click the Cancel button. Show me the Cancel button. If there are unsaved changes, a confirmation dialog will open asking you to confirm that you want to close the window without saving. Click Yes to close the window and lose all unsaved changes made. Click No to keep the window open so that you can save your changes (by clicking Save or Save & Close) before closing it.
