CCR's dictionaries control the choices presented in various drop-down fields throughout the application. Some of these dictionaries are common to all cancer groups. Only users with a CCR Administrator or Dictionary Editor role may add, delete or edit these dictionary entries — see Security in CCR. Other dictionaries are disease-specific and are maintained by each cancer group. These dictionaries can only be changed by users that have a Cancer Group Administrator role in the cancer group that they apply to. Users who do not have any of these roles assigned to them are not even able to access the Dictionary Manager.

This structure of editable dictionaries gives CCR a great deal of flexibility and adaptability as new procedures and information become available or as more cancer groups take advantage of CCR's capabilities.
