The administration of studies, cancer group users and other settings (such as which medical events the cancer group is interested in tracking) used to be handled in a single Study and Cancer Group Administration module. However, administration tasks for studies and cancer group have since been separated into two separate modules. Only users who are specified as cancer group administrators or study coordinators have access to the Study Administration area of CCR — see Security in CCR.

Most customization tasks that configure CCR for gathering study-specific information are not handled in the Study Administration module. Rather, they are performed using the Metabuilder tool, which essentially functions as a separate application — see The Metabuilder.
