If the lab test result you would like to add to the patient record is also associated with a medical event in that patient record, you might be better served to add the test result to the medical event rather than directly to the patient record, since it will automatically be added to the patient record at the same time. See Adding a Lab Test Result to a Medical Event and a Patient Record at the Same Time for instructions on how to do this. However, even if you add the lab test directly to the patient record now, if you decide to link it to a medical event later, you will be able to do so — see Linking a Medical Event to a Previously Entered Lab Test Result Record.

You can also import the test result data automatically from the UUHSC database, if it is already located there — see Reviewing a Patient's UUHSC Lab Test Records for Importing Into CCR.

To add a lab test result to a patient record:

1. Open the patient detail record for the patient in question. See Viewing/Editing a Patient Record for instructions on how to do this.

2. Select the Labs tab.

3. Click on the + button above the Tests grid on that tab. The Add Test Result window will open.

4. Make sure the Add Test Result tab on this window is selected.

5. Enter the test result information into the fields on the window. See The Add Test Result Tab (Add Test Result Window) for a description of the fields presented on this window.

6. Click the Save button to save the lab test results. Show me the Save button. The Test Result Detail window will close and the new lab test result will be added to the Tests grid on the patient detail window.

To close the Test Result Detail window without adding a test result to the patient record, click the Cancel button instead of the Save button. If you have entered any data on the window, a dialog will ask you to verify that you want to close the window without actually adding a lab test result. Click Yes to clear the dialog and finish closing the window or No to return to the Test Result Detail window and finish adding the result.

As soon as you start entering data on the Test Result Detail window, the text on the Save button will turn bold red, indicating the need to click on the button to save your work.
