Medical event types belonging to a cancer group can be shared with other cancer groups. When a medical event type is shared with another cancer group, medical event records of this type that have been entered by the cancer group the event type belongs to can be viewed by users from the cancer group being shared with, but users from that cancer group will not be able to add or edit events of that type in the patient record. Any cancer group-specific fields that have been added to the medical event type as a result of customization using the Metabuilder tool will also be viewable in shared medical event records.

In order to be able to use a medical event type, the owning cancer group must first indicate that they are willing to share the medical event type with your cancer group — see Sharing a Medical Event Type with Another Cancer Group. Once they have done this, you will be able to perform the following process to make the shared medical events viewable in patient records in the current cancer group.

To use an event type that is owned and made available for sharing by another cancer group:

1. Start the Cancer Group Administration utility. See Starting the Cancer Group Administration Utility for instructions on how to do this.

2. Select the Event Types tab on the CCR Administration window.

3. Click on the + button above the Event Types Belonging to Other Groups grid on that tab. The Use Event Type Shared By Other Group window will open displaying all of the event types that other cancer groups have indicated a willingness to share with your cancer group but that are not currently being used by your cancer group.

4. Select the event type that you want to use in the Available Event Types grid on this window. The selected row will be highlighted in yellow.

You can add multiple event types to use in the grid at the same time by holding down the CTRL key and clicking on each of the event types you want to use. Each of the selected event types will be highlighted in yellow.

5. Click on the Add button to add the selected event type. The Use Event Type Shared By Other Group window will close and the selected event type will be added to the Event Types Belonging to Other Cancer Groups grid on the Event Types tab.

To close the Use Event Type Shared By Other Group window without adding an event type, click on the Cancel button.
