A medical event record may only be linked to one EDW encounter record. If an existing medical event record has not already previously been linked to an EDW encounter, you may establish such a link at any time. To do this:

1. Open the Medical Event Detail window for the medical event in question. See Viewing/Editing a Medical Event for instructions on how to do this.

2. Click on the button to the right of the EDW EncounterID field with an ellipsis (…) on it. The Link Event to EDW Encounter window will open. Show me the Link Event to EDW Encounter window.

3. Enter a range of dates in the Admit Date Range pair of fields inside the Search For EDW Encounters data group. This range of dates indicates the range of dates to search the EDW for encounters of the type indicated in the Event Type field of the medical event record.

4. Click on the Find EDW Encounters button. The EDW Encounter Search Results: (Select to link) grid will be populated with encounter records from the EDW of the indicated type involving the patient during the specified date range. Show me the EDW Encounter Search Results: (Select to link) grid.

5. Click on the row of the encounter to be linked to the patient record from those returned in the grid. The row will be highlighted in yellow.

6. Click on the Link button to link the medical event to the selected encounter. A dialog will open, asking you to verify that you want to establish the link. Show me this dialog.

To close the Link Event to EDW Encounter window without establishing any link at all, click the Cancel button instead of the Link button.

7. Click Yes to confirm that you want to establish the link. The dialog and the Link Event to EDW Encounter window will close, and the ID number for the EDW encounter will appear in the EDW EncounterID field on the Medical Event Detail window.
