This topic addresses the process necessary to add a box to a freezer during the adding aliquots process. Often, users want to add a new box upon filling a previous box, which means they discover the need for the new box while adding aliquots. However, a new box can be also added to a freezer in the Storage Navigator, and the Storage Navigator is the place where new freezers and racks/sections are added. See Adding a New Box to a Freezer for instructions on adding a new box in the Storage Navigator. No matter where the box addition occurs, the user needs to have Dictionary Editor permissions in itBioPath in order to make that addition.
To add a new box to a freezer from the Add Aliquot window:
-
Start the Add Aliquot window see — Adding Aliquots.
-
Find the freezer to add the box in one of the Location fields on the Add Aliquot window. (Most likely, this will be the Location 2 field, since the Location 1 field will usually contain the box that is just finishing being filled, while Location 2 will usually be used to select the box that the user is going to start adding specimens to — see, for example, Changing Which Box an Add Expert Template Points to for Adding Storage.)
- Select the rack or section within that freezer where you want to add the box in that field (by expanding the freezer as necessary to get to that section). If appropriate, you can simply select the freezer, if the box is not supposed to be added to a rack within the freezer. The selected rack will be highlighted in blue in the drop-down list and the complete storage path will be displayed in the Location field.
- Clickto the right of the Location field. The Add New Box dialog will appear.
- Name the box, indicate the rows and columns of the box, and record any other notes about the box in the Add New Box window.
- Clickto finish adding the new box. The box will be added and the newly created box will be selected in the associated Location field so that you can start to add aliquots to it.
