Boxes are used to specify the location of specimens. The Storage Navigator contains all the freezers, racks, and boxes storing specimens. To add a new box while adding aliquots see Adding a New Box to a Freezer from the Add Aliquot Window. Before adding a box, a user needs Dictionary Editor permissions in itBioPath.

To add a new box to a freezer in the Storage Navigator:

  • Open the Storage Navigator by clicking on the horizontal bar labeled Storage Navigator in the quick access toolbar.

  • Locate the freezer from the list and click the triangle to reveal the contents.

  • Select the rack within the freezer where the box will be located. (Racks within a freezer are optional.) The selected rack will be highlighted in blue.

  • The Add New Box window will open. Type the name of the box in the Name field. indicate the dimensions of the box (in terms of columns and rows of cells) and record any other notes about the box in the Add New Box dialog.

  • Click Save to finish adding the new box. The detail window for the new box will open to confirm the creation of the new box. (Of course, the box will be empty.)
