The link between specimen and collection indicates that the specimen was collected in the same collection event as any other specimen associated with that collection. Unless a specimen is accidentally linked to the wrong collection, there should not be a reason to make a change. When making this change, it is only possible to assign the specimen to other collections associated with the patient the specimen is linked to, or to create a new collection record. If you wish to assign the specimen to a collection that is associated with a different patient, you will need to change the patient assignment, not just the specimen assignment — see Changing the Patient That a Specimen Record Is Linked To. To change which collection event a specimen record is linked to:

  • Open the specimen record for the specimen to which you would like to reassign to a different collection. See Editing Specimen Records for instructions on how to do this.
  • Select File-Change Collection from the menu on the specimen detail window. The specimen window will change, giving you access to the Collection ID field so that you can change the value in it.
