This application must be launched via 'Browser In A Box' (BIAB).

Browser-In-A-Box:

"Browser in a Box" (aka "BIAB") is an HCI provided service that insulates PCs and Macs from increasingly common browser-transmitted computer infections and malware, including ransomware. This is also the preferred method to access any applications that require Internet Explorer, for compatibility reasons.

BIAB is based on the Windows Remote Desktop technology, which is built into all Windows systems, and available as an application for Macs and IOS devices via the Apple Store.

How to enable BIAB on your PC:

  • Assuming you're logged into the HCI domain, you should be able to navigate to X:\Public\Apps, from where you can copy one or more of the nessesary files, BIAB-Edge.rdp, BIAB-Firefox.rdp, or BIAB-IE.rdp, to your PC desktop. From there, you can double-click on the icon on your desktop, which will present a login screen - be sure to use hci(yourUNID) as the username, and enter your HCI password. Within a minute or less, you should see a separate browser window appear, which is the BIAB session. It looks and operates like another browser window.

How to enable BIAB on your Mac:

  • First, download and install the Microsoft Remote Desktop app from the Apple Store.

  • Navigate to the smb://hci.utah.edu/dfs share by going into Finder, then Go, and Connect, using the smb://... string at the begining of this line. From there, navigate into Public/Apps, and copy one of the BIAB files (such as BIAB-IE.rdp) to your desktop. You should be able to launch BIAB - it may have you select an application to use - ie, Microsoft Remote Desktop.
